Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto Online players will soon have the chance to revisit North Yankton, the iconic location featured in Grand Theft Auto 5's prologue. Although details are limited, the location will be included in a new survival mode set to launch in October.

Despite preparing for the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 in Fall 2025, Rockstar continues to provide regular updates for Grand Theft Auto Online. While these updates are typically well-received, the developer faced backlash from the Steam Deck community after an anti-cheat update rendered the game unplayable on Linux-based devices, leading to a noticeable drop in the player count. Additionally, Rockstar recently removed a popular game mode, frustrating many fans. However, the announcement of a new North Yankton survival mode seems to have regained some goodwill among the player base.

North Yankton, specifically the Ludendorff Cemetery, will serve as the setting for this upcoming mode. For those unfamiliar, North Yankton was the snowy location of GTA 5's opening mission. The new survival mode is expected to launch in October and will likely be part of the game’s Halloween content. Data miners have discovered that the mode will involve players facing off against waves of zombies in a spooky Halloween event.

Rockstar has hinted at multiple surprises throughout October, but the exact release date for the North Yankton mode remains unconfirmed. With the anticipated arrival of Grand Theft Auto 6, it’s uncertain how much longer Grand Theft Auto Online will continue to receive new content, making this potentially the last Halloween update for the popular live-service game.
